JCH's History

Juan Carlos Holgado (16 April 1968) is a four-time Olympian (athlete in 1988 and 1992, coach in 1996 and 2000) who became an Olympic gold medallist in Barcelona in 1992 in the Team event.

He started Archery at the age of 9 and became a professional in 1987. He was the first archer in Spain with a National Government scholarship for Archery with total dedication to this sport. He won several national archery championships and National records in this time and represented Spain as a member of the national team on more than 100 occasions.

Education & Professional

He holds a Master degree in Management & Administration of Sport and a PhD in Physical Education & Sports. He has been officially involved in the World Archery Federation since 1999 when he was elected as the Chairman of the FITA Coaches Committee, organizing the 1st international coaches Seminar (2000) and the first FITA coaches manual Lvl 1 (2001). From 1999 to 2004, he was the editor and producer of archery magazine “Archery Focus” in Spanish. In 2003 he served as Technical Operations Manager at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. In 2008 he was appointed as the Technical Delegate for Beijing 2008, a position he repeated in London 2012 and Rio 2016 Games.

Till to date

From 1999 until nowadays, he is the Chairman of the Technical Committee for Archery in FISU (University Sports International Federation) to organize the archery event in the Summer University Games.

Hired by World Archery as its Events Director in 2005, he has been a critical player in creating the WA World Cups (2006-2016) and in the different improvement and changes in the world-class archery events since then. Over two decades of experience managing international affairs, developing archery projects, and running courses-workshops-seminars, Juan Carlos helped develop and grow Archery worldwide.

Since 2016 Juan Carlos is the Director of the World Archery Excellence Centre in Lausanne, the World Archery Federation “State of Art” archery facility aimed to help to grow the sport of Archery in all areas, as well as the Director of the FIDTA (the Archery Development Foundation of the International Federation).
